Various constructions designed for living and rest are built of logs. It‘s bathhouses, summerhouses, cafés, also dwelling houses and private houses. Wood is an ecological material of construction. It has a feature to accumulate warmth and regulate air moisture. Log walls of the house suck in and absorb toxic materials and block the formation of electrostatical charges in which dust accumulates. Log walls also help to create warm and cosy atmosphere. According to findings of World Health Organization (WHO), timber helps to fortify the human immune system, and for persons who have allergy or asthma the air in the log house is the most suitable. Walls made of sufficient thickness of logs are good sound isolators which protect from undesirable noise from the outside. So log house has many advantages. Wood is one of few ecological and regenerative materials of construction. An important advantage of timber is that it can be easily glued, can be jointed by nails, woodscrews and etc., processed without difficulty. And in regards of rigidity and solidity wood can be compared to metals. Log house is not less longeval than stone house. Nothing will happen to a properly built log house for many decades. Using contemporary wood processing facilities may prolong the longevity of timber several times. One more advantage of log houses is that it is safe to live inside them. Log house is a unique construction which is characterized as having almost absolute fastness to seismic influence: they can remain standing when under influence of 9 degrees earthquake. Because of big comparative weight of brick houses (1500-2500 kg/m3) it is necessary to put a foundation in a level where ground freezes. And a smaller weight of timber (600-900kg/m3) allows to build lightweight isolated footing. Because of this the construction of brick house costs on the average 1,3-1,5 times more than the construction of log house. The best walls according to sanitary and hygiene requirements are log walls made of conifer species. The conifer species are better to use for construction of log houses than deciduous species, because they have more regular shape of the trunk and are less tend to rot. Profiled glued balk prepared of conifer timber is also a great material for construction of a log house.
